CBS is continuing to rebuild the cast of Extant.
Lyndon Smith and Necar Zadegan have been tapped to join the cast of the network’s summer drama series starring Halle Berry for its upcoming second season. The duo will recur in a handful of episodes when the show returns to CBS this July.
Created by Mickey Fisher, Extant originally told the story of Molly Woods (Berry), an astronaut who returns after a year in outer space to discovers that she has been impregnated by an alien life-form. The series is produced by Steven Spielberg’s Amblin TV and also stars Pierce Gagnon and Grace Gummer.
Per Deadline, Lyndon Smith, whose previous television credits include Parenthood and Public Morals, will recur as JD Richter’s daughter; while Rake and Emily Owens M.D. alum Necar Zadegan will play Shayna Velez, General Tobias Shepherd’s Chief of Staff.
They are the latest actors to board the second season of Extant following on from a creative re-tooling which led to the departure of regulars Michael O’Neill and Hiroyuki Sanada, as well as the demotion of Camryn Manheim and Goran Visnjic to recurring. Said re-tooling will see the series move away from Molly’s work at the ISEA and instead focus on the search for her alien son who is threatening the human race.
As TVWise previously reported, Supernatural alum Jeffrey Dean Morgan and The Walking Dead’s David Morrissey have also joined the cast for the show’s 13 episode second season. Jeffrey Dean Morgan will play the series regular role of bounty hunter JD Richter, while David Morrissey recurs as General Tobias Shepherd, the Head of the Global Security Commission.
