Brit Marling & Zal Batmanglij's 'The OA' Gets Series Order At Netflix – TVWise

Netflix is teaming up with Brit Marling and Zal Batmanglij.
The streaming giant has handed out series order to The OA, an 8 episode drama from the duo which has Brit Marling attached to star and will be directed by Zal Batmanglij, TVWise has learned.
There are no pilot details available for the project, which Netflix said was being co-written by Marling & Batmanglij and would premiere globally in 2016. It is understood that Netflix landed the project after a heated bidding war involving internet, broadcast and cable networks.
“We are thrilled to be the home of the first television series Brit and Zal create together,” said Cindy Holland, Netflix’s Vice President of Original Content. “Whether in front of or behind the camera, or both, their creative voice is always uniquely captivating.”
The OA will be produced in-house by Netflix in association with Plan B Entertainment and Anonymous Content. Brit Marling, Zal Batmanglij, Michael Sugar, Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner are set to serve as executive producers on the eight episode series.
For its part, The OA is the latest drama project to get a green-light at Netflix in recent months as part of the streaming service’s ambition to unspool 20 original series a year. Other upcoming drama projects include a range of Marvel series, beginning with Dardevil on April 10th; Bloodline from the team behind Damages, which premieres later this month; and Joe Straczynski and The Wachowskis sci-fi series Sense8.
