Sony Entertainment Television Takes Exclusive UK Rights To Syfy’s ‘Ghost Hunters’, Sets March Premiere

The ‘Ghost Hunters’ are heading to the UK.

Sony Entertainment Television has acquired the exclusive first run UK broadcast rights to the ninth season of Syfy’s unscripted hit Ghost Hunters after striking a deal with international distributor Alfred Haber Distribution, TVWise has learned.

Ghost Hunters follows the TAPS (The Atlantic Paranormal Society) team, led by Jason Hawes, as they investigate paranormal cases across the United States. Michelle Tate joins the TAPS team for the sixteen episode ninth season of Ghost Hunters.

The unscripted series, which has previously aired in the UK on Sky Living and UKTV’s Really channel, is produced by Craig Piligian’s Pilgrim Studios for NBCUniversal’s Syfy network in the United States. The executive producers are Craig Piligian, Thomas Thayer, Mike Nichols and Alan David.

Ghost Hunters is the latest high profile acquisition for Sony Entertainment Television, who have gradually been increasing their content spend in the past few years. It joins a line up of exclusive content on the SPT backed channel that also includes TV Land’s Hot In Cleveland and the former NBC series Community.

The acquisition is also quite timely as it comes at a time when Sony Entertainment Television is airing the Ghost Hunters spin-off Ghost Hunters International on weekday mornings between 10am and 12pm. The ninth season of Ghost Hunters is set to premiere on Thursday March 5th at 9pm, with a double bill.
