The BBC has rounded out the cast of their “epic” War & Peace adaptation from Mr Selfridge scribe Andrew Davies and director Tom Harper.
Gillian Anderson (The Fall, The X-Files), Jim Broadbent (The Great Train Robbery) and Rebecca Front (The Thick of It) are amongst the latest cast addition to the six-part drama, which is set up at BBC Cymru Wales, Lookout Point, BBC Worldwide and Harvey Weinstein’s The Weinstein Company.
Gillian Anderson, whose BBC series The Fall is closing in on a third season renewal, will play Anna Pavlovna; Jim Broadbent has been cast as Prince Bolkonsky; while Rebecca Front will portray Anna Mikhailovna. They join previously announced cast members Paul Dano (There Will Be Blood), James Norton (Grantchester) and Lily James (Downton Abbey).
Rounding out the cast of War & Peace is Kenneth Cranham (In the Flesh), Aneurin Barnard (Cilla), Tuppence Middleton (The Imitation Game), Callum Turner (Glue), Jessie Buckley (Endeavour), Brian Cox (The Game), Ken Stott (The Hobbit), Stephen Rea (The Shadow Line), Ade Edmondson (Prey), Greta Scacchi (The Falling), Jack Lowden (The Tunnel), Tom Burke (The Musketeers) and Aisling Lotus (Good Cop).
Production on War & Peace is currently underway in Russia, Lithuania and Latvia, with BBC One eyeing a late 2015/early 2016 premiere. North American distributor The Weinstein Company is seeking a broadcast partner in the United States.
