USA Network has cancelled their legal comedy Benched, starring Happy Endings alum Eliza Coupe, after airing just one 12 episode season, TVWise has learned.
Created by Michaela Watkins and Damon Jones, focuses on Nina (Eliza Coupe), a dedicated, career-driven corporate attorney who has a very public nervous breakdown after getting passed up for an expected promotion, and finds herself working as a public defender. Jay Harrington, Oscar Nunez, Maria Bamford, Jolene Purdy and Carter MacIntyre also star.
Benched was one of the first series to emanate from ABC Studios boutique division ABC Signature and originally landed a series order at USA in January 2014. It wrapped its first season last month after a low rated inaugural season, which drew an average audience of just under one million viewers.
The series was one of only three comedies that the network kept on their slate after they retreated from the genre several months ago to refocus on their drama roots. The other two comedies, Sirens and Playing House, have both been renewed for second seasons.
