Melissa Benoist Set As Lead In CBS' 'Supergirl' – TVWise

After an exhaustive search, CBS has found the lead actress for Supergirl.
Melissa Benoist, whose previous credits include Glee, The Good Wife and Homeland, has been tapped to play the lead role in the superhero project from Warner Bros. Television and Greg Berlanti’s studio based Berlanti Productions, TVWise has learned.
Supergirl tells the story of Kara Zor-El (Benoist), Superman’s cousin who escaped her homeplanet Krypton amidst its destruction. Since arriving on Earth, she’s been hiding the powers she shares with her famous cousin. But now at age 24, she decides to embrace her superhuman abilities and be the hero she was always meant to be.
The drama is based on the DC character of the same name and is being penned by Ali Adler and Greg Berlanti, whose Berlanti Productions banner is behind fellow superhero series Arrow and The Flash. The executive producers are Greg Berlanti, Ali Adler and Sarah Schechter.
It is worth noting that, contrary to other reports, the project only has a series commitment and is not guaranteed a spot on CBS’ 2015-2016 schedule until it scores a series order. That said, given CBS topper Nina Tassler’s recent comments at the TCAs, it is widely expected to earn that series order before too long.
