CBS has handed out a pilot order to Life In Pieces, a single camera family comedy from Better Off Ted writer/co-executive producer Justin Adler and 20th Century Fox Television.
Life In Pieces is about one family, as told through the separate stories of its different family members. The comedy, which Adler penned on spec, is set up at 20th Century Fox Television and Kaplan Entertainment. Justin Adler and Aaron Kaplan will executive produce.
This marks a reunion between 20th Century Fox Television and CBS. The studio was behind the network’s ratings hit How I Met Your Mother, which lasted 9 seasons between 2005 and 2014. This is the first season in years that 20th doesn’t have a series on CBS after the network passed on picking up HIMYM spin-off How I Met Your Dad.
For its part, Life In Pieces joins a growing roster of pilots at CBS which includes a legal drama from Tony Phelan and Joan Rater, the Untitled Tommy Johnagin Project, as well as comedies The Mistake, and Taxi-22 starring John Leguizamo – both of which were rolled from last season.
In addition, CBS is also prepping a new Criminal Minds spin-off starring former CSI: NY lead Gary Sinise, which is being piloted as a planted episode of the original series; and superhero series Supergirl starring Melissa Benoist, which has a big series commitment.
