Anna Gunn has found her next gig…
The Breaking Bad and Gracepoint star has been tapped to play the female lead opposite Gary Sinise in CBS’ new (and as-yet untitled) Criminal Minds spin-off, which is being piloted as a planted episode of the original series set to air later this year.
From Criminal Minds showrunner Erica Messer, the new spin-off is set in a different division of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, which comes to the aid of American citizens who find themselves in trouble in foreign countries.
Anna Gunn will play Ally Lambert, an international law expert and talented linguist. She’s smart, capable and an indispensable part of the team that makes sure bad guys worldwide don’t slip through the murky waters of international law.
She joins a cast which is being led by former CSI: NY star Gary Sinise, who is playing team leader Jack Garrett. The Walking Dead‘s Tyler James Williams also recently boarded the spin-off as tech analyst Monty. Casting for the remaining series regular roles is currently underway, with production set to commence next month.
This, the second attempt to spin-off a series from Criminal Minds following 2011’s short-lived Suspect Behavior, is set up at original series producers’ the Mark Gordon Company, CBS Television Studios and ABC Studios. Messer is penning the script, and would segue to spin-off as showrunner should it go to series. Mark Gordon and Nick Pepper also executive produce.
