E4 Snaps Up UK Rights To ABC's 'The Goldergs' – TVWise

E4 is heading back to the 80s.
The channel has picked up the exclusive first run UK broadcast rights to ABC’s 1980s set comedy series The Goldbergs after striking a deal with international distributor Sony Pictures Television, TVWise has learned. The deal between E4’s parent company Channel 4 and SPT covers multiple seasons of The Goldbergs, with the show’s first season set to premiere on E4 in early 2015.
Created by Adam F. Goldberg, The Goldbergs is set in the 1980s and follows the exploits a family with and in-your-face mother, a hot-tempered father and three eccentric children. The comedy series is produced by Sony Pictures Television & Happy Madison and stars Wendi McLendon-Covey, Jeff Garlin, George Segal, Darien Provost and Troy Gentile. The series is currently airing its second season on ABC in the United States.
This is the latest acquisition for Channel 4’s digi-net E4, who have been on a buying spree in the past few months. Since the LA Screenings in May, E4 has inked deals with various distributors to pick up BBC America’s Almost Royal, NBC’s Marry Me, The CW’s Golden Globe nominated comedy series Jane The Virgin, and, most recently, The CW’s long running drama Supernatural.
“The Goldbergs have already proved to be immensely popular with viewers in the US with the show’s brilliant blend of humour, nostalgia and original storytelling”, said Mike Wald, Sony Pictures Television’s Executive Vice-President of International Distribution. “Following our recent sale of hit comedy Marry Me, it will make a great addition to E4’s new year programming.”
