Patrick Fugit (Gone Girl), Gabriel Bateman (Stalker) and Philip Glenister (From There To Here) are set to star in Outcast, Cinemax’s exorcism drama pilot from The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman.
Based on the comic series by Robert Kirkman and Paul Azaceta, Outcast follows Kyle Barnes, a young man who has been plagued by possession since he was a child. Now an adult, he embarks on a journey to find answers but what he uncovers could mean the end of life on Earth as we know it.
According to Deadline, Patrick Fugit will play series lead Kyle Barnes; while Gabriel Bateman has been cast as Joshua, an 8 year old boy who lives across town and appears to be possessed by a demon; and Philip Glenister will portray Reverend Anderson, a hard drinking, hard gambling West Virginian evangelical preacher who believes he’s a soldier in God’s holy war against evil.
Outcast was developed internally by Fox International Channels, who previously worked with Kirkman on The Walking Dead (FIC airs the series in more than 120 territories, including the UK), before landing a pilot order at Cinemax back in July. It is being produced through Kirkman’s Skydance Productions banner, with Kirkman, Sharon Tal Yguado and Circle of Confusion’s David Alpert serving as executive producers. Adam Wingard is attached to direct.
Speaking at the time Outcast landed at Cinemax, Executive Producer and FIC’s EVP of Scripted Programming Sharon Tal Yguado said: “At FIC, we’re committed to creating compelling, innovative television with A-List writers like Robert Kirkman, and with Cinemax we have a partner that is as passionate as we are about this very unique project.”
