Fox is expanding the run of The Mindy Project.
The network has picked up a further six episodes of the Mindy Kaling created series, bringing its third season order to 21 episodes, up from the 15 that were ordered back in May 2014, TVWise has learned.
A staple of Fox’s Tuesday night comedy block, The Mindy Project, while lower-rated than time-slot partner New Girl, has nevertheless been doing ok for Fox with an average audience of 3.1 million viewers and a 1.6 A18-49 rating so far this season in live+same day, and get a fairly large bump in DVR ratings.
While the order for more episode shows that Fox execs have faith in the Universal Television produced comedy, the truth is that the network has very little in the works that could replace it. Freshman comedy Mulaney has been all but cancelled, while they only have two other six episode comedies in the works for this season: Will Forte’s Last Man on Earth; and Weird Loners, starring Happy Endings‘ Zachary Knighton.
