Starz is returning to the high seas.
The cable network has picked up their Toby Stephens fronted pirate drama Black Sails for a third season, TVWise has learned
Created by Jonathan Steinberg, Black Sails is set 20 years prior to Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic novel Treasure Island and tells the story of Captain Flint, the most brilliant and most feared pirate captain of his day, and his men. The drama series stars Toby Stephens, Luke Arnold, Zach McGowan, Toby Schmitz, Hannah New, Hakeem Kae-Kazim, Jessica Parker Kennedy, Mark Ryan, Clara Paget and Tom Hopper.
“The incredible world that Jon Steinberg and Robert Levine have created continues to unfold in season two. Flint’s journey is riveting, and around him, Jon and Robert have woven an intricate web of conflict, betrayal, and redemption for the other characters that we believe will keep fans of the show coming back for more,” said Carmi Zlotnik, Managing Director of Starz. “We think that season three will bring even more of the drama and lore that has made it a hit both in the U.S. and internationally.”
The season three order for Black Sails, which was announced at NYCC, comes on the heels of the network renewing LeBron James’ Survivor’s Remorse – which has the distinction of being Starz’s first comedy series since 2010. It also comes ahead of the second season premiere on Black Sails, which is set to premiere on Saturday January 24th at 9/8c.
