Starz has released the first images from the upcoming third season of their original series Da Vinci’s Demons.

Created by David S. Goyer, Da Vinci’s Demons tells the ‘untold’ story of the world’s greatest genius, Leonardo da Vinci, during his turbulent youth in Renaissance Florence. The series is produced by Adjacent Productions and stars Tom Riley (Monroe); Laura Haddock (Upstairs Downstairs), Lara Pulver (Spooks/MI5), Elliot Cowan (Luther) and Blake Ritson (Serena)

The third season, which was ordered by Starz in May, is set to pick up directly from the events in the season two finale and sees Da Vinci’s world come crashing down when the city of Otranto is torn apart by an Ottoman invasion. This is the first season not to feature series creator David S. Goyer as showrunner after he stepped down to focus on other projects. X-Files veteran John Shiban is the new showrunner.

The six new images released today show Pope Sixtus (James Faulkner) and Count Riario (Blake Ritson) at the Vatican, Lucrezia Donati (Laura Haddock) on horseback, and Da Vinci (Tom Riley) & Zoroaster (Gregg Chillin) interrogating Count Riario. The third season of Da Vinci’s Demons premieres on Starz in early 2015.
