E4 is adding another CW series to their lineup.
The broadcaster, who in the past has aired such CW series as 90210 and The Tomorrow People, has closed a deal with CBS Studios International to acquire the exclusive first run UK broadcast rights to Jane The Virgin, TVWise has learned.
Penned by Jennie Snyder Urman, Jane The Virgin picks up when a series of surprising and unforeseen events causes a hard-working, religious young Latina to be accidentally artificially inseminated. The series is produced by CBS Television Studios and stars Gina Rodriguez, Ivonne Coll, Andrea Navedo, Jaime Camil, Brett Dier, Yael Grobglas, Justin Baldoni and Ryan Devlin.
The series, which is set to premiere on E4 in 2015, is the latest addition to the channel’s already strong stable of US imports. The C4 owned and operated digi-net is also the UK home to The Big Bang Theory, 2 Broke Girls, Revenge, The 100, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, The Mindy Project and New Girl. “Jane The Virgin feels genuinely innovative and fresh and I’m thrilled it will be joining the stellar line up of acquired shows on E4”, said Channel 4’s Chief Creative Officer Jay Hunt.
Jane The Virgin is the first broadcast series that Channel 4 has acquired from the 2014-2015 season, though they have been busy snapping up numerous cable series of late such as Fargo, Melissa & Joey, Houdini and Almost Royal. Deals for shows from the new season have been taking longer to wrap up this year. Beyond Jane The Virgin, only Forever, The Flash, Gotham, Stalker, How To Get Away With Murder and Scorpion have secured UK deals.
“Jane The Virgin was one of the most talked-about comedies at LA Screening this year, and we are delighted to be working with Channel 4 to bring this fresh new series to E4’s young audience”, added Stephen Tague, Senior Vice President of Europe for CBS Studios International”.
