Moone Boy is heading to ABC.
The network is set to adapt the Sky1 comedy series after handing a put pilot commitment to the project, which hails from original series creator Chris O’Dowd, TVWise has learned.
Moone Boy follows 12 year old Martin Moone as he attempts to survive his eccentric childhood with the help of his imaginary friend Sean Murphy. O’Dowd, who starred in the UK original, is not expected to appear in front of the camera on the ABC adaptation.
Chris O’Dowd is penning the script and will executive produce alongside Dave Becky and Nick Frenkel. Sony Pictures Television, 3 Arts Entertainment, Sprout Pictures, Baby Cow Productions and Hot Cod Productions are producing.
The UK original was commissioned by Sky1, launching in 2012 to became one of the satcaster’s more critically acclaimed original comedies. A third season of the show, which airs on streaming service Hulu in the United States, is currently in the pipeline.
