Sky1 has given the greenlight to Quiz Night, a eight episode pub quiz series from independent production company Firecracker Films.
Part quiz show/part observational documentary, Quiz Night follows four teams in different pubs across the country as they compete in pub quizzes. The show, which will add new pubs and teams throughout its run, uses a range of on-screen graphics, which will enable viewers to follow along at home. Scores and answers will be held until the end of each round, before one team will finally win the much coveted ‘golden tankard’ at the end of the night.
The eight-episode series is the second fixed-rig project to get a greenlight at Sky1 in the past couple of months, following on from the order for The Sun Set from TwoFour and GME. Quiz Nights was commissioned by Sky1 Director Adam MacDonald & Sky Entertainment’s Commissioning Editor Chris Brogden, The executive producers are Jes Wilkins and Morgan Roberts. Production on the series will begin immediately for a 2015 premiere.
“Quiz Nights is a celebration of a quintessentially British night and we are very excited for it to be coming to Sky 1″, said MacDonald. “We wanted a show that is not only a piece of fascinating people watching TV but that also allows Sky customers to play along from home and really get involved.”
Sky Entertainment’s Commissioning Editor Chris Brogden commented: “Whether just for fun or for the highly competitive, Quiz Nights will be a true celebration of one of Britain’s great institutions.”
While Firecracker Films’ Morgan Roberts added: “Firecracker Films are delighted to be working with Sky on such a unique idea – a show with heart, humour, rivalry, intrigue and a brilliant cast of characters. We want to make a series that captures the imagination and takes the idea of a traditional quiz show into a completely new space”.
