Santino Fontana (Frozen), Michael McDonald (Web Therapy), Donna Lynne Champlin (Law & Order) and Vincent Rodriguez (Here Lies Love) have joined the cast of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, Showtime’s half-hour musical comedy pilot from Aline Brosh McKenna and Rachel Bloom.
Crazy Ex-Girlfriend follows Rebecca (Rachel Bloom), a successful, driven, and possibly crazy young woman who impulsively gives up everything – her partnership at a prestigious law firm and her upscale apartment in Manhattan – in a desperate attempt to find love and happiness in that exotic hotbed of romance and adventure that is West Covina, California.
Santino Fontana has been cast as Greg, a bartender and Rebecca’s first friend; Michael McDonald as Darryl, Rebecca’s new boss; Donna Lynne Champlin as aula, her co-worker at the law firm who is suspicious of Rebecca; and Vincent Rodriguez as Josh, Rebecca’s childhood boyfriend who she serendipitously runs into years later, and who acts as the catalyst for her dramatic life change.
The comedy, which got pilot a green-light at Showtime back in June, was co-created by Aline Brosh McKenna and Rachel Bloom. CBS Television Studios is producing, with both Bloom and Brosh McKenna serving as executive producers. Marc Webb also executive produces and is attached to direct. Production begins next month in Los Angeles and West Covina.
