Helen McCrory & Simon Russell Beale Upped To Series Regulars On ‘Penny Dreadful’

Helen McCrory and Simon Russell Beale, who guest starred on the first season of the Sky Atlantic and Showtime co-production Penny Dreadful, have been upped to series regulars for season two, TVWise has learned.

In addition, Sky and Showtime today announced that Patti LuPone (American Horror Story), Douglas Hodge (Robin Hood), Sarah Greene (Vikings) and Jonny Beauchamp (How To Make It In America) have booked guest roles on the second season of Penny Dreadful.

Patti LuPone will play a mysterious character of great importance in Vanessa’s (Eva Green) past; Douglas Hodge has been cast as Bartholomew Rusk, an intense Scotland Yard investigator; Sarah Greene will play Hecate, Poole’s powerful daughter; while Jonny Beauchamp has been cast as “a young man with a singular past”.

The show’s second season, which was ordered by Sky Atlantic and Showtime back in June, consists of 10 episodes, up from the eight episodes that comprised the first season. Production on the new season is set to commence on location in Dublin, Ireland, this month and will subsequently air on Sky Atlantic and Showtime in early 2015.
