Channel 4 has ordered Cyber Bully, a one-off drama-doc toplined by Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams which will explore the growing trend of teenagers suffering from some form of cyber bullying.
Cyber Bully tells the story of Casey Jacobs (Maisie Williams), a teenage girl battling with her anonymous cyber-stalker in a real-time thriller from the makers of Blackout. Casey is a teenager who experiences the worst the web has to offer – from peer-to-peer bullying to advanced computer hacking – and fights to overcome her ordeal. Ella Purnell (Maleficent) and Jake Davies (X + Y) also star.
Inspired by numerous real life incidents, the one-off hails from director Ben Chanan, who previously helmed the drama-doc Blackout for Channel 4. Cyber Bully was commissioned by Channel 4’s Head of Documentaries Nick Mirsky and is being produced by independent production company Raw TV. The executive producer is Richard Bond.
“It is one of the most important purposes of Channel 4 to find new ways of engaging young audiences with the cyber world and the stories that play out on the internet”, said Channel 4’s Head of Documentaries Nick Mirsky. “This film does exactly that in a way that is gripping, relevant and fiercely public service”
While Director Ben Chanan added: “The audience will be trapped with Casey for a full screen hour and we need an exceptional actress to play her. I couldn’t imagine anyone else in the role. Maisie Williams is not only remarkably talented, she also has an immediately likeable, feisty screen presence which makes you root for her instinctively”.
