Carly Chaikin (Suburgatory) and Portia Doubleday (Mr Sunshine) have joined the cast of USA Network’s drama pilot Mr. Robot, TVWise has learned.
Mr. Robot follows Elliot, a computer programmer with a social disorder who decides that he can only connect to people by hacking them. He wields his skills as a weapon to protect the people that he cares about. Elliot will find himself in the intersection between a cybersecurity firm he works for and the underworld organizations that are recruiting him to bring down corporate America.
Carly Chaikin has been cast as Marlene, the chain-smoking striking hipster who also happens to be an expert at writing malicious malware — specifically, dangerous computer worms that take down entire networks; while Portia Doubleday will play Angela, the pragmatic old childhood friend of Elliot and an account executive at the AllSafe Cyber Security firm.
The duo join a cast which is being led by 24 alum Rami Malek, who is playing the titular role of Elliot. Produced by Universal Cable Productions, Mr. Robot first appeared on USA Network’s development slate in May, before earning a pilot order two months later in July. The drama was penned by Sam Esmail and is being executive produced by Steve Golin and Chad Hamilton.
