Syfy UK Picks Up ‘Twin Peaks’, Sets Premiere For September 1st

Syfy UK has acquired the UK rights to David Lynch’s iconic television series Twin Peaks, TVWise has learned.

Twin Peaks follows the inhabitants of a quaint north-western town who are stunned after the homecoming queen Laura Palmer is suddenly found murdered. The investigation that follows, headed by FBI Special Agent Dale Cooper, engenders an eerie chain of events with cataclysmic results felt across the entire town.

The series, which will premiere on Monday September 1st and air weekdays in the 10pm time-slot, aired for two seasons on ABC in the early 1990s and spawned a prequel feature film titled Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me. The cast for the series includes Kyle MacLachlan, Michael Ontkean, Sheryl Lee, Sherilyn Fenn, Lara Flynn Boyle, Mädchen Amick, Dana Ashbrook, Richard Beymer, Ray Wise, Peggy Lipton and Warren Frost.

Syfy UK’s acquisition of Twin Peaks is quite timely. It comes shortly Paramount Home Entertainment released a new Blu-ray box set titled Twin Peaks: The Entire Mystery, which includes never before seen footage from the feature film. The acquisition also comes ahead of the launch of Wayward Pines, described by some critics as Twin Peaks 2.0, which will premiere in 2015 on Fox in both the US and the UK.

This is the second series that Syfy UK announced they had acquired today for a repeat run on the channel. The genre channel also picked up Firefly and the movie sequel Serenity, which will air on the channel throughout September. Twin Peaks is one of a number of key titles for Syfy UK’s September schedule, alongside the new seasons of Defiance and Haven.
