ABC Family has renewed their drama series Switched At Birth for a fourth season, TVWise has learned.
Switched At Birth tells the story of two teenage girls who discover they were accidentally switched as newborns in the hospital. Despite overwhelming socio-economic and ethnic differences, both families must learn to co-exist as parents and blend their lives into one for the sake of their daughters.
The series is produced in-house and stars Katie Leclerc, Vanessa Marano, Constance Marie, D.W. Moffett, Lea Thompson, Lucas Grabeel, Sean Berdy and Marlee Matlin. The executive producers are Lizzy Weiss (Blue Crush) and Paul Stupin (Dawson’s Creek).
The renewal comes just ahead of the season three finale, which is scheduled to air on the network on Monday August 18th at 8/7c. “Fans will be clamoring for season four and to know what happens with Daphne and Bay after the season three finale next week”, said Tom Ascheim, President of ABC Family.
Switched At Birth has long been a solid ratings performer for the network and currently ranks as one of basic cable’s strongest dramas this summer and number one in its time period in key female demos. It is the latest ABC Family series to swing a renewal, joining Baby Daddy and Pretty Little Liars, both of which were renewed earlier this year.
