TVWise presents our hot picks of must see television for the week ahead.
Stuck on what to watch this week? CBS’s new summer series Extant, which features an all-star cast led by Halle Berry, kicks off this Thursday on Amazon Prime Instant Video UK; E4 has their next sci-fi hit in the form of The CW’s The 100; and the seventh & final season of True Blood kicks off on FOX UK. Also of note this week is the season finales of Penny Dreadful & Episodes, while the complete second season of Netflix’s Hemlock Grove also debuts this week.

True Blood (FOX UK – Monday July 7th, 9pm)
The seventh season of the HBO vampire drama hits FOX UK with an episode which sees a band of rogue H-vamps crash the vampire-human mixer at Bellefleur’s, with shocking results. Meanwhile, Sookie seeks refuge from accusations that she’s somehow to blame for the chaos in Bon Temps and the “one vampire for every human” plan moves forward.
The 100 (E4 – Monday July 7th, 9pm)
All but guaranteed to become E4’s next sci-fi hit, The 100 is set 97 years after a nuclear war has destroyed civilization and follows a spaceship housing the lone human survivors which sends some 100 juvenile delinquents back to Earth to investigate the possibility of re-colonizing the planet. The series has already been renewed for a second season.
Penny Dreadful (Sky Atlantic – Tuesday July 8th, 9pm)
In the season finale of the BSkyB/Showtime co-production, Vanessa, Sir Malcolm, Ethan, Frankenstein and Semebene explore the the Grand Guignol theatre where they’re confronted by their worst nightmare. The series has been renewed for an extended second season of 10 episodes.
Episodes (BBC Two – Wednesday July 9th, 10pm)
In the third season finale, interest in ‘The Opposite of Us’ intensifies and Beverly struggles to keep Sean on course for the return to London. Meanwhile, Matt has his own battles to fight when he learns that NBC expects him to audition for the lead in a new drama pilot, The BBC/Showtime co-production was renewed for a fourth season earlier this year.
Extant (Amazon Prime Instant Video UK – Thursday July 10th)
The latest US series to premiere exclusively on an on-demand broadcaster, Extant hits Amazon UK less than 24 hours after its premiere on CBS in the United States. The series stars Halle Berry as a female astronaut trying to reconnect with her family when she returns after a year in outer space. Her experiences lead to events that ultimately will change the course of human history.
Hemlock Grove (Netflix UK & Ireland – Friday July 11th)
The 10 episode second season of Hemlock Grove hits Netflix UK this Friday. As usual, Netflix are keeping their cards close to the vest on what’s to come but they have said that season two will “pick up with the town coming to grips with the shocking massacre by one of its deadliest creatures.”
