Sony Entertainment Television has acquired the exclusive first run UK broadcast rights to TNT’s dramedy series Franklin & Bash, TVWise has learned.
Created by Kevin Fall and Bill Chais, Franklin & Bash follows the exploits of Jared Franklin and Peter Bash, two street wise lawyers who, after defeating the well known law firm of Infeld & Daniels, are recruited to work at the firm to boost their litigation department. The series is produced by Four Sycamore Productions, Left Coast Productions & FanFare Productions in association with Sony Pictures Television and stars Breckin Meyer, Mark-Paul Gosselaar, Malcolm McDowell, Reed Diamond, Kumail Nanjiani and Dana Davis.
SET’s deal with Sony Pictures Television will see the broadcaster, which is also backed by SPT, air the show’s third season from Thursday August 28th at 10pm. The 10 episode third season of the buddy legal dramedy sees Garcelle Beauvais exit the show, while Heather Locklear joins the cast as Rachel King, a beautiful and brilliant trial lawyer and the firm’s newest partner.
The first two seasons of Franklin & Bash previously aired in the UK on Channel 4’s youth-skewing digi-net E4 between 2011 and 2012. TVWise broke the news in June 2013 that a decision had been made under then Channel 4 Head of Acquisitions Gill Hay not to acquire the show’s third season for E4 given the series’ poor ratings performance on the channel.
With the acquisition of Franklin & Bash, Sony Entertainment Television are solidifying their position as an emerging player when it comes to first run US content. The SPT backed channel is already the exclusive UK home to the cult comedy series Community, which was recently picked up for season six, and just last week they inked a deal for the exclusive rights to the fifth season of the TV Land comedy Hot In Cleveland.
