Sky 1 has ordered The Kings & Queens of Speech, an eight episode series from Educating Yorkshire indie TwoFour which follows school teams as they take part in a debate competition.
The eight-part series follows numerous debate teams from across the UK as they first compete in their own schools, before the winning teams from these schools go on to compete in a national contest. The docu-series is being produced in partnership with Debate Mate, an educational charity that works with 200 schools nationwide and helps disadvantaged young people to find their voice through debate.
The Kings & Queens of Speech is being produced by TwoFour, who are also working on Sky1’s first ever fixed-rig series The Sun Set. The series was commissioned by Sky’s Adam MacDonald and Christopher Brogden, with Dan Adamson and Deborah Sargeant serving as executive producers.
Like The Sun Set and Welcome To My Garden, The Kings & Queens of Speech has been commissioned for the weekday 8pm time-slot – a key slot on the Sky1 schedule that channel director Adam MacDonald has set as a priority for investment. “The Kings & Queens of Speech will be a fresh new addition to Sky 1s emerging slate of 8pm programming – it is going to thrill, move and energise Sky 1 customers across the generations”, said MacDonald.
