HBO has given the greenlight to Show Me A Hero, a six hour mini-series from The Wire and Treme creator David Simon which has Oscar Isaac (Star Wars: Episode VII) and Catherine Keener (Captain Phillips) attached to star.
Show Me A Hero tells the story of the young mayor of Yonkers, New York, who is faced with a federal court order that says he must build a small number of low-income housing units in the white neighborhoods of his city. His attempt to do so tears the whole city apart, paralyzes the municipal government and, ultimately, destroys his political future.
Oscar Isaac has been cast as Nick Wasicsko, the young mayor who finds himself in the middle of a racial controversy thanks to the federal court order; while Catherine Keener will play Mary Dorman, an East Yonkers homeowner who comes to a remarkable realization during the battle over where to build low-income housing.
The six-hour mini, which is based on the book by Lisa Belkin, has been in the works at HBO for quite some time and reunites Simon with the network that produced his critical hits The Wire and more recently Treme. Simon is co-writing the effort with William F. Zorzi. Casting for the remaining roles is now underway, with the mini expected to air in 2016. The executive producers are David Simon,William F. Zorzi, Gail Mutrux and Nina Kostroff Noble; while Paul Haggis is attached to direct.
