TNT has handed a 4 episode back order to flagship drama series Major Crimes, bringing the total number of episodes ordered for the show’s third season to 19, TVWise has confirmed.

The increased order comes after TNT initially ordered 15 episodes when the picked up season three back in August 2013. It is understood that the 19 episode order will be split into two parts, with 10 episodes airing this Summer (from Monday June 9th) and the remaining 9 following in the Winter.

This also marks the second time in as many years that TNT has upped the order for Major Crimes to 19 episodes, which is part of Turner’s commitment to invest more in original scripted content. Last year, that commitment saw the network order additional episodes of most of their dramas including Perception and Rizzoli & Isles. This year, the only two series confirmed to have received back orders are Major Crimes and Falling Skies which has 12 episodes this season as opposed to the standard 10.

Created by James Duff, Major Crimes follows the major crimes unit of the LAPD under the command of Captain Sharon Raydor. The drama series is produced by Warner Horizon Television and stars Mary McDonnell, G.W. Bailey, Tony Denison, Michael Paul Chan, Raymond Cruz, Phillip P. Keene, Kearran Giovanni, Graham Patrick Martin, Nadine Velazquez, Robert Gossett and Jonathan Del Arco. Guest stars for season three include Azita Ghanizada, Andrew Daly, Jon Tenney, Tom Berenger, Bill Brochtrup, Malcolm-Jamal Warner, Ransford Doherty and Kathe Mazur.

The show’s third season will see the Major Crimes unit investigate the disappearance of two kids and their father, the death of the defendant in a rape trial and a complex case involving arranged marriages and diplomatic immunity. In addition, one of Sanchez’s old cases will resurface when it turns out a man he put away for manslaughter might be innocent. On the home front, Sharon Raydor will try to help Rusty put his turbulent past behind him, a goal made far more difficult when a member of the young man’s biological family returns, threatening Rusty’s hard-won stability.
