Netflix has green-lit production on a new animated series based on Mattel’s Ever After High franchise.
The streaming giant has commissioned 12 episodes of the as-yet untitled series which will debut globally on Netflix in early 2015, following the release of the feature film Ever After High Spring Unsprung. The series will feature the royally rebellious and spellbinding stories of the Ever After High students, including Apple White (daughter of Snow White) and Raven Queen (daughter of the Evil Queen).
“The engaging and magical storylines of Ever After High make it a great addition to our growing repertoire of original kids programming,” said Ted Sarandos, Netflix’s Chief Content Officer. “Mattel has a track record of making high quality animated programmes and we’re excited to extend our relationship, bringing our members the enchanting world of Ever After High.”
While Michael Riley, Mattel’s Vice President of Franchise Development and Content Distribution, added: “Today’s kids want to watch their favorite characters anywhere and everywhere they are. Netflix is the perfect home for developing and expanding the already enchanting world of Ever After High. We’re excited to be working with Netflix and for the show to be a part of its growing portfolio of original kids programming.”
This marks Netflix’s latest green-light for an original Kids series – a fertile battleground amongst broadcasters, both linear and on-demand – and follows on from the recent announcements that they were partnering with Scholastic for a new Magic School Bus series and with DreamWorks for new animated entry Dinotrux.
