WGN America Renews 'Salem' For Second Season – TVWise

WGN America has renewed their first original series, Salem, for a second season.
The network, which only recently moved into the original scripted arena, has picked up 13 episodes of the Fox 21 produced drama for its second season, which is slated to air on WGN America in 2015. The first season of Salem is slated to continue airing on WGN America through July 13th.
Salem, created by Brannon Braga & Adam Simon, re-imagines the infamous witch trails in the 17th century Massachusetts town and dares to uncover the dark, supernatural truth behind them. The drama series is produced by 20th Century Fox Television’s cable division Fox 21 and stars Janet Montgomery, Shane West, Seth Gabel, Xander Berkeley, Ashley Madekwe, Tamzin Merchant, Elise Eberle, and Iddo Goldberg.
Across its first two episodes Salem has averaged 1.7 million total viewers and just over 800K viewers in the 18-49 demo in live+3 delivery. That follows the strong launch for the drama, which premiered to 3.1 million viewers and 1.3 million viewers in the 18-49 demo, also in L3 delivery. The network will no doubt be hoping for similarly strong figures for their second original scripted series Manhattan, which premieres this July.
“At WGN America, we are committed to delivering compelling, brand-defining programming rich with fascinating characters and ‘Salem’ has done just that,” said Matt Cherniss, WGN America’s President & General Manager. “Brannon Braga, Adam Simon, the talented cast and our great partners at Fox 21 have opened up an intriguing world that has captivated viewers.”
