Syfy Acquires Starz’s ‘Spartacus’

Syfy has inked a deal with Starz Worldwide Distribution to acquire Starz’s original drama series Spartacus.

The deal with Starz Worldwide Distribution gives Syfy the basic cable rights to 39 episodes of Spartacus – covering both the series proper and the prequel miniseries Spartacus: Gods of The Arena.

The drama joins a growing line up of acquired scripted series at Syfy which also includes Bitten, Lost Girl, Continuum and The Almighty Johnsons. Spartacus is set to premiere on Syfy on Thursday June 26th at 10/9c, behind the network’s original series’ Defiance and Dominion.

“Our strategy of acquiring hit shows to complement our premium original scripted series has really resonated with our audience”, said Syfy’s Senior Vice President of Programming Chris Regina. “With its action-soaked storylines and powerful characters, Spartacus will be a dynamic addition to our schedule.”
