Sky’s current Head of Comedy Development Ben Boyer has been promoted and will now serve as Commissioning Editor of Comedy for the satcaster.
Boyer succeeds former commissioning editor Saskia Schuster, who is leaving Sky this Summer to join ITV’s comedy commissioning team. In his new role, Boyer will report to Sky’s Head of Comedy Lucy Lumsden and will be responsible for commissioning comedy across Sky’s portfolio of entertainment channels. A key area of work moving forward will include working closely with Lumsden on the Sky/FX Networks comedy development deal.
The exec has been with Sky’s comedy team since 2012, most recently working on the Sky Arts’ one-off The Dog Thrower. His prior roles at Sky have included serving as a liaison to the Hollywood studios on acquired programming and as Senior Content and Commissioning Producer for Sky 1 HD and Sky Atlantic HD. Prior to Sky, Boyer served as a coordinator in the BBC’s Programme Acquisitions department in Los Angeles.
“Getting to commission for such a wide-ranging portfolio of channels is an incredible opportunity for a comedy fan with many and varied tastes – I’m looking forward to getting to work in a greater capacity with the incredible talent that Sky employs every step of the way”, said Ben Boyer.
While Sky’s Head of Comedy Lucy Lumsden added: “Ben Boyer has a fantastic talent for seeking out new, fresh, different and diverse shows which is key for a role working across our range of channels. He’s a great member of my team and it gives me great pleasure to announce his promotion today.”
