Note From The Editor: Introducing The New TVWise

After months of work, I’m pleased to unveil the new look for TVWise.

The re-design is an important step for us, with the new site supporting mobile and tablet devices for the first time since we launched in January 2012. Other new features include direct video hosting and improved support for image galleries – both of which we will be more than proud to showcase in our upcoming coverage of the Upfronts and the LA Screenings.

But this new look for us is not just a face lift. Back in late 2011, when we were in the prep stages for the launch, a decision had to be made. Where would the site sit editorially? The advice I received from former colleagues was trade or consumer, but not both. And so we launched and trade it was.

But as the metrics came in my thoughts often turned to the possibility of a hybrid site. One that could do the best of trade and the best of consumer. “Can’t be done” was the advice we received, “It’ll weaken the brand.”

And so we introduced consumer elements slowly and looked at what occurred. The Acquisitions Scorecard, invented and implemented on TVWise before any other site, key premiere dates and more recently a move into talent interviews, were the elements we brought in. And they all worked for us – the site pulls in nearly 600K uniques a month. So when the redesign began in earnest, I took some time, thought about it and said “screw it, hybrid it is”.

So we will be making some editorial changes as well. We will stay largely focused on trade with coverage of key buys, acquisitions, commissions, casting, executive moves and other deals; but we will be adding more consumer coverage too. Ramping up interviews, adding a weekly What To Watch column, regular features and so much more.

So TVWise will continue to bring the coverage that you, our loyal readers, have come to expect over the past two years, while adding even more fresh and exciting content. We’ve already added to the team and expect to announce further hires in the months ahead. It’s an exciting time for us and we’re pleased to be able to share it with you.
