FIC Inks Global Deal For Broadcast & Syndication Rights To ‘Wayward Pines’

FOX UK is set to become the exclusive home to Wayward Pines in the UK after parent company Fox International Channels (FIC) reached a deal with Fox Broadcasting Company and FX Productions to secure international broadcast and syndication rights to the upcoming 10 episode event series from M. Night Shyamalan.

The partnership between Fox Broadcasting Company and FX Productions sees Fox International Channels become the exclusive first-window broadcaster of Wayward Pines in more than 125 territories. Per the deal, FIC has also secured direct sales responsibility for all international television windows as well as non-linear and home entertainment rights.

With this huge deal, Wayward Pines has the distinction of joining The Walking Dead and the upcoming Outcast as one of the few series to which Fox International Channels has inked original development and global ownership deals. Wayward Pines is expected to launch on FOX in the 125 countries that fall under Fox International Channels’ footprint utilising the same day-and-date release strategy used for The Walking Dead.

Based on Blake Crouch’s best-selling novel Pines, Wayward Pines hails from M. Night Shyamalan and follows US Secret Service agent Ethan Burke as he arrives in the bucolic town of Wayward Pines, ID, on a mission to find two missing federal agents. But instead of answers, Ethan’s investigation only turns up more questions. What’s wrong with Wayward Pines? Each step closer to the truth takes Ethan further from the life he knew, from the husband and father he was, until he must face the terrifying reality that he may never get out of Wayward Pines alive.

The event series was one of the first that Fox in the US green-lit as they re-entered the space last year. Wayward Pines features a large cast which includes Matt Dillon (Crash), Melissa Leo (The Fighter), Toby Jones (The Hunger Games), Carla Gugino (Watchmen), Terrence Howard (The Butler) and Juliette Lewis (August: Osage County). The drama is based on a spec-script written by Chad Hodge and is produced by FX Productions with Shyamalan, Hodge, Donald De Line and Ashwin Rajan serving as executive producers.

“This series has all the makings of an international hit—a spectacular, world-renowned cast, thrills crafted by suspenseful storyteller M. Night Shyamalan, and a global FOX launch platform reaching more than 350 million viewers”, said Hernan Lopez, President and CEO of FIC. “We are also excited by the early interest the show is generating with potential buyers, and confident that these partnerships will amplify the scale and impact the series will have around the world.”
