Pop Monkey Productions, the production company based in Los Angeles and London which was set up by four former FremantleMedia execs, has picked up global rights to pet format Fat Pets, Fat Owners and inked a number of distribution deals ahead of MIPTV next week.

Fat Pets, Fat Owners follows the journey of three obese pet lovers and their overweight animals as they embark on the ultimate weight loss regime together. The format was created by ETV Productions and was first commissioned by the now defunct Sky Real Lives.

“I’ve always loved this show. With pet obesity on the rise and the current appetite for pet programming, there has never been a better time to bring back this format”, said Chuck Thomas, Co-Founder and Vice-President of Development at Pop Monkey Productions.

In addition, Pop Monkey has inked distribution deals with various partners to bring three of their formats to the international market at MIPTV. Nordic World have taken the rights to In The Dark, the game-show originally commissioned by the UK’s Channel 5; Turkish Distributor The Global Agency has picked up Date My Boss; while Paris based production and distribution company French TV has acquired Pop Monkey’s LA set dating show Kicked To The Kurb.

“Pop Monkey is passionate about developing and acquiring entertainment formats with international appeal”, said Chuck Thomas, Co-Founder and Vice-President of Development at Pop Monkey Productions. “We’re excited to be bringing these formats to MIPTV with some great partners.”
