History UK Picks Up 'Vikings', Sets Premiere For May 13th – TVWise

History UK has picked up the first season of Vikings from international distributor MGM Television, TVWise has learned. The show’s first season, which consists of 9 episodes, will launch on History UK on Tuesday May 13th at 10pm.
Created by Michael Hirst, Vikings follows the adventures of Ragnar Lothbrok, a historical figure, and the greatest hero of his age – and the gripping sagas of Ragnar’s band of Viking brothers and his family – as he rises to become King of the Viking tribes. The series portrays the world of these Viking raiders, traders, explorers – not from an outsider’s view, but, through the eyes of Viking society. Vikings stars Gabriel Byrne (In Treatment), Travis Fimmel (The Beast), Jessalyn Gilsig (Glee), Gustaf Skarsgard (The Way Back), Clive Standen (Camelot) and Katheryn Winnick (Stand Up Guys). Guest stars for season one include Gerard McCarthy (The Fall) and Billy Gibson (The Clinic).
It has taken some time for Vikings to land at the UK History channel. The series, recently renewed for a third season, was the first scripted original drama series for History in the United States and first launched in March 2013. Though History UK’s airing of the series will be its first linear broadcast in the UK, Vikings has been available in the UK market on Amazon Prime Instant Video (formerly LOVEFiLM) since May 2013.
