EXCLUSIVE: After his recent turn as King George in BBC Two’s three-part drama 37 Days, Irish actor Patrick Fitzsymons has joined the cast of fellow BBC Two drama The Fall for its upcoming six episode second season, TVWise has learned. Representatives of the BBC declined to confirm or comment on this report.
According to my sources, Fitzsymons (pictured), whose other credits include Hidden, The Wipers Times and Game of Thrones, has been cast as Malcolm Franks, the Chief Constable of the PSNI (Police Service of Northern Ireland).
The show’s second season is poised to the pick up from the season one finale which saw serial killer Paul Spector (Jamie Dornan) evading the police investigation headed by Detective Superintendent Stella Gibson (Gillian Anderson). A personal link from Spector’s past opens up some clues for Gibson but provokes Spector in ways that threatens to jeopardise the whole investigation. Gibson is forced to take ever greater risks but the closer she comes to capturing him, the more Spector trespasses into her private world, delighting in taunting and provoking her. As the net gradually tightens around him he becomes psychologically ever more dangerous and destructive.
