Endemol has snapped up another successful indie.
The international media company has acquired independent production company Artists Studio; financial terms were not disclosed. The deal also covers Far Moor Media, a specialist company set up by the founders of Artists Studio to secure co-financers and co-producers for drama projects. Endemol will handle global distribution for Artists Studio productions, including The Fall season 2, which just recently entered production in Belfast. With this deal, Artists Studio joins a slew of other production companies acquired by Endemol including Darlow Smithson Productions and Tiger Aspect.
Artists Studio, formed in 2009, is arguably best known as the production company behind the BBC Two hit The Fall. That series, executive produced by Artist Studios’ Gub Neal, Justin Thomson-Glover and Patrick Irwin, has been one of the companies most successful projects, racking up sales in numerous international territories with such partners as Bell Media and Netflix. Other scripted projects for the prod co have included the ABC co-production Combat Hospital and they are actively developing a Bergerac reboot for the BBC. While Far Moor has helped secure co-financers and co-producers for The Fall and the upcoming Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell.
