Law & Order: LA and Monday Mornings alum Alfred Molina has joined the cast of Matador, the second original series for Robert Rodriguez’s fledgling cable network El Rey, TVWise has learned.
Molina, who co-stars in HBO’s The Normal Heart, has been cast as Andres Galan, a man who built his fortune in the telecom industry, but his true passion is soccer. He is the owner of the ascendant LA Riot franchise and is celebrated in both the sports and business worlds. He joins a cast which also includes Gabriel Luna, Nicky Whelan and Neil Hopkins.
Matador follows the unlikely rise of Antonio “Matador” Bravo, a popular soccer star, who comes to be known as much for his playboy antics off the field as his dynamic moves on it. But he is in fact a skilled covert operative executing missions for a little known branch of the CIA. The series hails from Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman and is produced by their K/O Productions banner. Entertainment One (eOne) is handling international distribution.
