Fox has added a quartet of actors to their Batman prequel Gotham, TVWise has learned.
Sean Pertwee (Jo), Robin Lord Taylor (The Walking Dead), Zabryna Guevara (Burn Notice) and Erin Richards (Being Human) have all been cast in the drama, which hails from The Mentalist creator Bruno Hello & Warner Bros. Television and landed at Fox with a series commitment in late 2013.
Pertwee has been cast as Alfred Pennyworth, a tough-as-nails ex-marine from East London who has loyally served the Waynes and now, in the wake of their tragic deaths, he’s fiercely protective of the young Bruce Wayne; Lord Tayler as Oswald Cobblepot (AKA The Penguin), a low-level psychopath who hides his sadistic lust for power behind an exquisitely polite demeanor; Guevera as Captain Essen, Gordon’s boss at the GCPD Homicide Squad; and Richards as Barbara Kean, James Gordon’s (Ben McKenzie) fiancée who is a sophisticated emergency room doctor.
Penned by Heller, Gotham follows Gordon’s story when he is still working as a detective, many years before he becomes commissioner and meets Batman. Fox topper Kevin Reilly also recently revealed that the series would feature other prominent characters from the Batman universe including The Joker and a Young Batman. Warner Bros. Television is producing, with Bruno Heller and Danny Cannon serving as the executive producers. Cannon is also attached to direct.
