Two of UKTV’s original magic series, Dynamo: Magician Impossible and The Happenings, are heading to the United States.

The National Geographic Channel has inked a deal with international distributor Passion Distribution to pick up the US broadcast rights to The Happenings, which consists of 4 hour-long episodes; and the second season of Dynamo: Magician Impossible, which also runs 4 episodes. The deal between NGC and Passion was inked at the Real Screen Summit in Washington, D.C. last week.

The Happenings follows magicians Barry and Stuart as they set about making the unbelievable believable to the unsuspecting residents of towns across the UK and America. Each of the four episodes are self contained and feature a number of mysterious incidents that play out over the course of a few weeks in four different towns. The local populations are in the dark, but viewers are in on it from the start and can expect to be amazed and surprised by the incredible events as they unravel before them. The series is produced by Objective Productions and Crook Productions with Richard Watsham, Matt Crook and Andrew Newman serving as executive producers.

Dynamo: Magician Impossible follows 28 year old magician Dynamo, who like his grandfather before him grew up practicing precision card-handling and developing powerful magical skills. The series follows him as he travels the globe as the unassuming anti-hero from Bradford who just happens to astound everyone he meets. Dynamo’s unique and innovative brand of magic captures the imagination of all those who see him perform, whether it is members of the public at a bar on a Miami rooftop or any number of celebrities. The series is produced by Inner Circle Films and Phil McIntyre Entertainment. A fourth season has already been commissioned by UKTV and is set to air on Watch in late 2014.

“Magic is a largely untapped genre in the U.S. and we are excited to be working with internationally renowned National Geographic Channel to bring two of our best shows to American audiences”, said Sally Miles, CEO of Passion Distribution.  “We believe they are the perfect home to showcase amazing talent and stunts.”

David Lyle, CEO of the National Geographic Channels, commented: “These programs will continue to build upon franchises that complement our hit series Brain Games. Joining our line up which includes None of the Above and The Numbers Game, we continue to look for smart programming like this, which tests the mind in new and entertaining ways.”

While Jonathan Newman, UKTV’s Head of Programme Distribution, added: “The global success of our shows proves that UKTV’s continued investment in ground-breaking talent and unique programming is resonating with the international broadcast community. Both The Happenings and Dynamo: Magician Impossible are unique and bold formats and we are delighted that they are attracting loyal viewers around the world.”
