Krysten Ritter is heading back to prime-time. The actress, who starred on ABC’s Don’t Trust The B—- In Apartment 23 for two seasons before it was cancelled, is finalising a deal to star in NBC’s astronaut themed comedy pilot Mission Control.

Mission Control is an ensemble comedy set in the 1960s which examines what happens when a strong woman butts heads with a macho astronaut in the race to land on the moon. The half-hour effort is written by David Hornsby. Universal Television is producing with Hornsby, Will Ferrell, Malcolm Barrett, Adam McKay and Jonathan Slavin serving as executive producers.

Ritter, who in addition to starring will also produce, has been cast as Molly, the head engineer who leads the Apollo team at Mission Control at the NASA Manned Space Centre. The character is described as a woman in a man’s world who is super-smart, brisk without being brusque and immensely capable without losing her feminine appeal. When Tom Stone is brought in to add balance to Mission Control, Mary sees it as a sexist attempt to undercut everything she has done.
