Netflix has renewed their original drama series Lilyhammer for a third season, TVWise has learned. Season three is set to premiere on Netflix in the United States, Canada, the UK & Ireland, Latin America, Denmark and the Netherlands later this year.
Lilyhammer was created by Anne Bjørnstad & Eilif Skodvin and follows Frank “The Fixer” Tagliano, as he enters the federal witness protection programme, trading the mean streets of New York for the icy fjords of Norway, forging a new life among the locals of Lillehammer. The series is produced by Rubicon TV AS in association with Red Arrow International for Netflix and stars Steven Van Zandt (The Sopranos), Marian Saastad Ottesen, Trond Fausa Aurvåg, Kyrre Hellum, Sven Nordin, Anne Krigsvoll and Steinar Sagen.
“We are proud to bring back Lilyhammer for a third season,” said Ted Sarandos, Netflix’s Chief Content Officer. “Lilyhammer is the type of global show that Netflix members around the world have discovered and love and season three will see that world expand even more.”
The move to renew Lilyhammer comes a mere moth after Netflix released the second season of the series to subscribers in the United States, Canada, the UK & Ireland, Latin America, Denmark and the Netherlands. The series is often described by Netflix execs as both a “hit” and their “first original series”, however, the former is hard to quantify as Netflix still refuses to release any viewing figures.
