The second season of Fox’s drama series The Following will receive its UK premiere on Sky Atlantic on Tuesday January 21st at 10pm, a mere 24 hours after the show’s second season premieres in the US, it has been announced.

Created by Kevin Williamson, The Following picks up shortly after notorious serial killer Joe Carroll (James Purefoy) escapes from death row and embarks on a new killing spree, the FBI calls former agent Ryan Hardy (Kevin Bacon) to consult on the case. Having since withdrawn from the public eye, Hardy was responsible for Carroll’s capture nine years ago, after Carroll murdered 14 female students on the Virginia college campus where he taught literature. The drama series is produced by Warner Bros. Television and stars Kevin Bacon, James Purefoy, Natalie Zea, Shawn Ashmore, Annie Parisse, Valorie Curry, Nico Tortorella, Adan Canto and Kyle Catlett.

In the show’s second season we catch up with Ryan in the wake of a horrific new murder spree. The FBI calls on him and Mike Weston (Shawn Ashmore) to speak with the lone survivor, Lily (Connie Nielsen), in order to help them solve the case. Ryan is reluctant to re-engage with the FBI, but finds a valuable ally in his niece, Max (Jessica Stroup), an NYPD cop working in the Intel Division. As the investigation proceeds, Ryan crosses paths with several complicated individuals, including Luke (Sam Underwood) and Mandy Lang (Tiffany Boone), which furthers his suspicion that Joe Carroll’s reign of terror is far from over.
