UKTV is extending its relationship with Dynamo – the star of the company’s hit series Dynamo: Magician Impossible, which has been a ratings hit for UKTV’s Watch channel and has been sold to more than 200 countries.
The commercial network has given the green-light to two Dynamo Christmas specials (Dynamo Top Ten Greatest Moments and Dynamo Revealed) that will air on Watch this December. UKTV has also confirmed a fourth season of Dynamo: Magician Impossible, which is currently in production and is set to air on Watch in 2014.
Dynamo Top Ten Greatest Moments is an one hour program that will be driven by social media. Prior to the show, fans vote for their favourite Dynamo moments from the last three series and during the show a host of well-known celebrity faces and fans will reveal why they think an illusion deserves its place in this extraordinary countdown. The celebrities confirmed to appear in the special include pop sensation Tinie Tempah, Radio 1 DJ Scott Mills, Mathew Horne (Gavin & Stacey) and Keith Lemon.
While in Dynamo Revealed Radio 1 DJ and TV presenter Zane Lowe takes Dynamo back to his roots, uncovering the story of how Steven Frayne went from being bullied on a housing estate in Bradford to becoming one of the most celebrated magicians in the world today. The special is filmed in front of an intimate audience of fans, family & friends and will see Dynamo sharing his personal story, interspersed with never seen before footage from his early days. Both specials were commissioned by UKTV’s Richard Watsham and ordered by Watch’s General Manager Steve Hornsey. Phil McIntyre Productions and Inner Circle Films are producing with Hilary Rosen, Lucy Ansbro and Dan Albion.
“Dynamo: Magician Impossible has been a huge stand out hit for Watch and an unprecedented success in Pay TV”, said Steve Hornsey, General Manager of Watch. “While we have a four part series of Dynamo: Magician Impossible currently in production for transmission next year, I’m delighted that in the meantime we can treat our viewers to these special programmes that will add a bit of festive magic to the TV schedules in December.”
While Dynamo added: “I am really looking forward to sitting down with Zane, through watching my shows my fans have gained some knowledge of my life story but this is going to be a real opportunity to delve deeper and for viewers to find out what inspired me to take up magic and hear about the trials and tribulations I encountered along the way.”
