Sean Hayes is sticking around on NBC, at least for now. The network has handed a 5 episode back order to the Hayes fronted comedy series Sean Saves The World, bringing the total number of episodes ordered for the show’s first season to 18.
Penned by Victor Fresco, Sean Saves The World follows Sean, a divorced gay dad who must figure out how to parent his 14-year-old daughter, who just moved in, while navigating a temperamental new boss at work. The series is produced by Universal Television & Hazy Mills and stars Sean Hayes, Thomas Lennon, Linda Lavin, Echo Kellum, Samantha Isler, Lindsay Sloane and Vik Sahay.
The pick up of additional episodes follows on from NBC ordering 4 additional scripts last month and just as the most recent episode of Sean Saves The World, benefiting from its The Voice lead in, made substantial gains in the ratings, posting 4.6 million total viewers and a 1.4 A18-49 rating. With the back order, Sean Saves The World becomes only the second of NBC’s new fall shows to earn a pick up, with the other The Blacklist having been given a back nine, full season, order. Other NBC freshman shows have not fared as well, with the likes of Ironside and Welcome To The Family having been cancelled and pulled from the schedule.
