Sky1 & Cinemax Renew 'Strike Back' For Final Season – TVWise

Sky1 & Cinemax have renewed their action series Strike Back for a final season (the fifth for Sky1 and the fourth for Cinemax) to air in 2014. 10 episodes have been ordered for the show’s final season, which will be shot on location in Asia and Europe.
Based on the novel of the same name by Chris Ryan, Strike Back follows the exploits of Section 20, an elite counterterrorism unit as it spans the globe to stop potential threats, often behind enemy lines. The drama series is produced by Left Bank Pictures in association with BSkyB & HBO/Cinemax and stars Phillip Winchester, Sullivan Stapleton, Michelle Lukes, Liam Garrigan, Robson Green, Dougray Scott and Milauna Jackson. The most recent season of the series, which recently wrapped its run on Cinemax and premieres tonight on Sky1 in the UK, followed the team as they tracked terrorist Al-Zuhari and his conspirators from the jungles of Colombia to Beirut to Russia to Eastern Europe in order to stop a major attack on Western-allied targets.
Strike Back began its life as a six part series produced for UK broadcaster Sky1, which is currently airing on Cinemax under the title Strike Back: Origins. Following Sky1’s decision to renew the series for an expanded second season, Cinemax boarded Strike Back as a co-producer leading to a number of creative changes as well as greatly increasing the budget for the series; with production sources telling me that the most recent season has a budget of £20 million/$32 million. Since then Sky and Cinemax have enjoyed a successful partnership, with Strike Back having established Cinemax as a player in originals and leading to such other series as Hunted, Banshee and the recently ordered period piece The Knick.
