NBC has cancelled freshman series Ironside and Welcome To The Family after airing only 3 episodes of both, TVWise has learned.
Welcome To The Family has been pulled effective immediately, while Ironside will air one more episode next Wednesday before disappearing from the schedule. NBC has announced that they will be airing a variety of programming in those vacated slots until January; with Chicago PD set to assume Ironside‘s 10pm slot from January 8th and Community returning January 2nd at 8pm with back-to-back episodes. Parks & Recreation will then assume Welcome To The Family‘s Thursday night 8:30pm time-slot as of January 9th.
The decision to axe both Ironside and Welcome To The Family comes after both have struggled to find a sizeable audience in their respective time-slots. Ironside premiered on October 2nd to a soft 6.8 million viewers and a 1.3 18-49 demo rating and has since slid in the ratings, with the most recent episode pulling in 4.8 million viewers and a 1.0 rating in the demo. Welcome To The Family had even softer ratings than Ironside, premiering on October 3rd to just under 3 million viewers and a 1.1 rating, with the most recent episode pulling in a mere 2.4 million viewers and a 0.9 rating in the 18-49 demo.
With the cancellations, Ironside and Welcome To The Family are the latest of this new crop of freshman series to have their fates decided. They join the likes of ABC’s Lucky 7, Fox’s Murder Police and Us & Them and CBS’ We Are Men which have all been cancelled. Meanwhile, NBC’s The Blacklist, CBS’ The Crazy Ones, The Millers and Mom and ABC’s Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. have earned full season pick ups and Fox’s Sleepy Hollow has been renewed for a 13 episode second season.
