Lotte Verbeek is the latest actress to join the cast of Starz’s upcoming 16 episode drama series Outlander, which hails from Battlestar Galactica executive producer Ronald D. Moore and Sony Pictures Television.
The Borgias alum Lotte Verbeek has been cast as Geillis Duncan, wife of the procurator fiscal, who is commonly referred to as a witch, due to her advanced knowledge of herbs and plants. She is a beautiful, dark presence in the village outside Castle Leoch. She joins previously announced main cast members Sam Heughan, Tobias Menzes, Graham McTavish, Gary Lewis, Caitriona Balfe, Duncan Lacroix, Annette Badland and Stephen Walters.
Based on the series of novels by Diana Gabaldon and developed for television by Battlestar Galactica‘s Ron Moore, Outlander spans the genres of romance, science fiction, history, and adventure in one grandiose tale. It follows the story of Claire Randall (Caitriona Balfe), a married combat nurse from 1945 who is mysteriously swept back in time to 1743, where she is immediately thrown into an unknown world where her life is threatened. When she is forced to marry Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan), a chivalrous and romantic young Scottish warrior, a passionate affair is ignited that tears Claire’s heart between two vastly different men in two irreconcilable lives. The drama series is being produced by Tall Ship Productions, Story Mining & Supply Company and Left Bank Pictures in association with Sony Pictures Television. The executive producers are Ronald D. Moore and Jim Kohlberg. Sony Pictures Television is handling global distribution.
