Oscar nominee Vanessa Redgrave – who recently wrapped production on BBC Two’s adaptation of the Diane Setterfield novel The Thirteenth Tale – has joined the cast of ABC’s upcoming 13 episode limited series The Black Box.
Redgrave has been cast as Dr. Hartramph, a psychiatrist who is treating world renowned neuroscientist Elizabeth Black. She joins previously announced main cast member Kelly Reilly (Sherlock Holmes), who is playing Elizabeth Black. Production is slated to commence later this year, with ABC eyeing a 2014 premiere.
Created by Amy Holden Jones, The Black Box follows world renowned neuroscientist Elizabeth Black who appears to have it all. In an impossible journey to find balance in her life, she is constantly haunted by her own struggle with mental illness. On the outside, Elizabeth has a special touch for the patients she treats at The Center for Neurological Research and Treatment, otherwise known as “The Cube.” However Elizabeth’s mental illness is not the only secret she’s kept locked away from her family and her new fiancé. The drama series is being produced by Bold Films with Anne Thomopoulos, Bryan Singer, Ilene Chaiken and Oly Obst serving as executive producers. Simon Curtis is attached to direct. Sierra/Engine is handling international distribution.
