CBS Hands 13 Episode Order To 'Extant' For Summer 2014 – TVWise

After seeing some success this Summer with high profile scripted series Under The Dome, CBS has lined up another scripted project – again from Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Television – for next Summer. In a competitive situation CBS has landed Extant; a sci-fi series which hails from newcomer Mickey Fisher. The project has been given a 13 episode straight-to-series order and will air in Summer 2014 alongside fellow Amblin project Under The Dome, which was recently renewed for a second season.
Penned by Mickey Fisher, Extant is a futuristic thriller about a female astronaut trying to reconnect with her family when she returns after a year in outer space. Her experiences lead to events that ultimately will change the course of human history. The drama series is being produced by Amblin Television & CBS Television Studios with Steven Spielberg, Greg Walker, Mickey Fisher, Brooklyn Weaver, Justin Falvey and Darryl Frank serving as executive producers. CBS Studio International will handle global distribution.
“Extant is a very original concept with layers of humanity, mystery and surprise that reveal itself throughout the script,” said Nina Tassler, President of CBS Entertainment. “Our partnership with Amblin for Under The Dome showed that viewers respond to high-quality event programming in the summer. We look forward to building on that with Extant and offering CBS audiences another high-concept, unique event for summer television.”
